Kindergartners have one 1-hour practice a week. Girls practice from 4:00 to 5:00 PM on Friday evenings and boys practice afterward, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. Practices are always held at the Forest Park Elementary School field.
The kindergarten program isn’t as formal as soccer in the older grades and focuses on fun, sportmanship, and the team concept. We also want to give these youngsters an introduction to a mildly structured sporting environment.
On the first day, the coaches will divide the kids into an equal number of “teams” with 5 to 7 players on each. The first 35 or so minutes of the practice time will be dedicated to fun soccer-related activities and skills development. The remaining 25 minutes will be for scrimmages.
Depending on how many kids are on a team we will scrimmage in either a 3 versus 3 or 4 versus 4 format with small goals on a small field. Each week the scrimmage will be against a different “team”.
